Murray River

This region is a playground for boating, water skiing and swimming on the magnificent winding mighty Murray River. The majestic tall gum trees and multitude of different birdlife makes this area an outdoor wonderland. There are many wineries and gourmet foods available at the towns of Swan Hill, Echuca, Corowa, Yarrawonga and the larger town of Wodonga. Echuca is the closest Murray town to Melbourne and offers the traveller a wonderful historical port experience with its old town shops and the magical cruise down the Murray on a Paddle Steamer. I have had the pleasure of dining at the delectable Oscar W's restaurant, the ambience and gourmet food is an experience not to be missed (it is often very busy so book early to avoid disappointment). Swan Hill's paddle steamer PS Pyap has a one hour Murray cruise every night at dusk with a sound-and-light show that brings this historic old town to life. This area is also a golfer's paradise with numerous championship golf courses including the magnificent Yarrawonga 45 hole golf complex.
