The Yorke Peninsula has some of the best fishing in Australia and, in turn, offers a smorgasbord of fresh seafood, including large lobsters and the delicious King George Whiting. While touring around this peninsula you are never far away from the pristine beaches and clear water. Take a trip down to the most southern point to Innes National park, where you can experience emus and Western Grey Kangaroos in their natural environment. You can also visit Innes National Park as part of a three day Aboriginal Cultural Tour. The Yorke Peninsula is the land of the Adjahdura people, and during European settlement, Point Pearce was set up as an Aboriginal mission. You can take tours ranging from a half day through to five days to learn about the rich Aboriginal heritage of Point Pearce and the Yorke Peninsula. While down south, a worthwhile experience is to go to Ballywire's fully working farm. You will observe farm animals including donkeys, horses, sheep, cows, chickens, bantams, ducks, geese, rabbits, dogs, cats and fauna rescue animals. On the same property you can enjoy farm produce for sale, arts and crafts, tearooms and a licensed restaurant. Also in the south of the peninsula and not far off of the Yorke Highway, is the Tavern on Turton. Here you can take in the dramatic views of the southern Yorke Peninsula while enjoying their excellent meals, which are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Port Pirie is South Australia's first proclaimed provincial city and very much worth a stay overnight. On the north-west side of the Yorke Peninsula is the "Copper Coast", so called because of the rich deposits of copper found there. The copper towns of Moonta, Kadina and Wallaroo are all within about 12 minutes' drive of each other, and are well worth a look. Other towns worth investigating within this area are Port Broughton and Maitland.
